Man accused of breaking glass door at Navy admiral’s home in Point Loma (original) (raw)

SAN DIEGO — Navy officials are investigating a security breach at military housing near Naval Base Point Loma — police said it was at an admiral’s home — where a man allegedly used a planter to break a glass door early Thursday, authorities said.

A woman resident called police shortly after 4:30 a.m. to report the incident at her home on Silver Gate Avenue in the Wooded Area portion of Point Loma.

The home is located in a gated community that serves as senior officer housing, a Navy spokesperson said.

After trying to open other doors in the house, the suspect moved on to a neighboring home on Silver Gate and found an unlocked vehicle door, police said. He went inside and apparently passed out or fell asleep until Navy personnel and San Diego police officers arrived, said police Officer David O’Brien.

No one was injured.

The 22-year-old man found inside the vehicle was arrested on suspicion of felony vandalism, police said.

When confronted by officers, the man spoke “rambling nonsensical sentences” including “Did I appear in the future?” and then asked where he was and how he could get home.

He told officers he had been drinking in the Ocean Beach area and believed someone may have spiked his drink. He said he didn’t remember anything between drinking and being found inside the vehicle.

There was no loss, O’Brien said. Police are continuing to investigate the incident.

“The security breach is under investigation. The Navy is working closely with local law enforcement,” said Navy spokesperson Brian O’Rourke.
