More than 2,500 pounds of crystal meth found during North County traffic stop (original) (raw)
Carlsbad police arrested a driver Friday night after pulling his car over for a traffic stop on Interstate 5 near Camp Pendleton and discovering more than 2,500 pounds of crystal methamphetamine in his vehicle, according to the department.
Officers pulled over the 24-year-old man on Interstate 5 north of Las Pulgas Road, north of Oceanside, shortly before 9:45 p.m. on a suspected vehicle code violation. Officers, assisted by a police dog, discovered the drugs in the car, police said.
Police seized 2,563 pounds of packaged crystal meth, with an estimated street value of 1.15millionto1.15 million to 1.15millionto3 million, police said.
The driver, a Tijuana resident, was arrested and booked on suspicion of transporting a controlled substance and possessing over 20 kilograms of methamphetamine. He was being held in lieu of $500,000 bail at the Vista jail.
