Sheriff’s detectives are investigating the death of a man who was found mortally wounded in front of a Fallbrook home Wednesday night, officials said.

Someone called 911 to report an assault with a deadly weapon around 8:25 p.m. on Alturas Road near Sancado Terrace in Fallbrook. When deputies arrived, they found the victim lying in front of a residence with injuries to his torso, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Personnel from the North County Fire Department were called and took the victim to a hospital, where he later died, sheriff’s Lt. Michael Krugh said in a statement.

Investigators are working to gather more information and determine the circumstances leading up to the death, he said. No suspect information was released. The name of the victim also wasn’t released.
