San Diego County’s weak marine layer eroded faster than anticipated on Friday, allowing temperatures to soar quickly above 100 in many areas on the third day of a late summer heat wave, the National Weather Service says.

Ramona hit 114 degrees, breaking the record for Sept. 6 by 2 degrees. The previous record was set during a major heat wave in 2020.

Forecasters say the current hot spell won’t begin to ease until Monday, and seasonal temperatures won’t return until Wednesday.
