Pedestrian killed after being struck in a suspected DUI crash in Carlsbad (original) (raw)
A 23-year-old San Diego woman died Tuesday after she was hit by a car in a suspected DUI crash on Tuesday, police said.
The crash was reported around 12:35 a.m. on Las Palmas Drive near Camino Vida Roble, police said in a news release.
The woman died at the scene. Her name was not released pending notification of her family.
Officers learned the woman had just exited her car when the sedan struck her and three cars, police said. Investigators said that just before the crash, a witness had reported seeing the Jetta speeding.
The Jetta’s alleged driver — Jose Manuel Zambrano Cruz, 26, of Carlsbad — fled after the crash, police said. He was later located on El Camino Real near Poinsettia Lane and arrested.
He was booked into Vista Jail on suspicion of hit and run, DUI causing injury or death and vehicular manslaughter, online jail records show.
