Sewage nightmares in Mexico go beyond Tijuana (original) (raw)
Re “Legislature unanimously approves resolution urging federal government to declare sewage crisis an emergency” (Sept. 3): As a part-time resident of Rosarito Beach, Mexico, the border sewage debacle is near and dear to me. Let’s hope the measure passed by the California Legislature works.
However, my concern is the sewage flowing down from the hills and valleys between Rosarito and the border. There are a number of valleys which carry sewage down to the sea every day. Also, one of the main pump stations at Punta Bandera, about 10 miles from the border, hasn’t been working for years.
Addressing the Tijuana River is essential, because that’s where most of the sewage comes from. However, with all of the other valleys spilling into the ocean, and the seeming lack of care from the Mexican government, I fear that even after infrastructure repairs are made the problem will continue to exist for years to come.
