Aug '24 | Development Update - Gathering & Mining (original) (raw)

Marvelous Scars of Honor Community,

The August 2024 Live Development Update was a blast, filled with exciting firsts.

Here's a quick summary of the highlights for those who missed it.

If you're feeling excited, please watch the summary video at the end of the article.

Introductions

In keeping with polite etiquette, we couldn't go without introducing not just one, but two new faces on our Live Development Updates.

We welcomed Greta, also known as 'Igrytte,' a long-time content creator, passionate gamer, and frequent attendee of gaming events, who stepped up as our new Livestream Host.

Joining her was Kaloyan, one of the creative minds in our Game Design team.

Of course, viewers also had the pleasure of seeing Alexander once again, our brilliant Game Design Lead.

The Journey of Crafting a Game Mechanic

The team remained on course, starting with a detailed presentation on the creation of the Gathering and Mining mechanics.

As is typical in game development, everything began with the conceptualization phase.

Once the conceptualization phase is complete, it is time to bring the illustrations to life.

Our wonderful guests proceeded by showcasing some Mining Animations and Cracking/Exploding VFX.

The Actual in-game reveal of the Mining and Gathering mechanics

Arguably the most anticipated segment of the livestream was the Game Reveal.

The team played an exciting 8-minute video featuring actual in-game footage, showcasing characters exploring the new zones and mining various nodes.

Viewers had the chance to not only see the mining process in action but also to marvel at the stunning environment and detailed city structures.

The regular ore nodes operate on a simple principle: the player who strikes first gets the loot.

But there’s more to it - once you begin mining, a mini-game activates.

Your performance in this mini-game, including hits classified as Miss, Normal, or Critical, will influence the rarity and quantity of the ore that drops.

Still not impressed? How about party gathering?

That’s right - Scars of Honor will feature a party-gathering mechanic, allowing two or more players to mine or gather from massive ore deposits.

Here’s the twist: all party members must successfully hit the node, if even one fails, the entire attempt is compromised.

If you’re eager to catch the full gameplay reveal, head over to the video summary below and immerse yourself in all the excitement.

The Woodcutting

Following the excitement of the gameplay footage, the livestream shifted gears to tease the next Gathering mechanic - Woodcutting.

The team presented several concepts for gatherable trees and showcased animations for different hit types: Miss, Normal, and Critical.

The Bonus content

Before wrapping up this month’s presentation, the team completely nuked the stream with never-before-seen in-game footage showcasing the different Spell Schools.

This marked the first look at the combat overhaul and how the spells are evolving.

Though still a work in progress, the footage clearly highlights the significant improvements and differences from the current state of the spells.
