About Bernard Recht, MD, PhD

He has decades of experience in dermatology, with a strong focus on skin cancer detection, immunodermatology and medical education. He brings a unique perspective to patient care through his extensive background in both research and clinical dermatology. Dr. Recht is committed to educating the next generation of dermatologists and has remained active in academic medicine throughout his career.
He earned a Bachelor of Science in Bacteriology and Immunology from the University of California, Berkeley and completed a PhD in Immunochemistry at the City University of New York while conducting his research at New York University. He earned his medical degree from Mt. Sinai Medical Center and completed his internship at Huntington Memorial Hospital in Pasadena. He then completed a dermatology residency and research fellowship at Stanford University.
Dr. Recht is on staff at El Camino Hospital and serves as a clinical instructor at the Palo Alto Veteran’s Hospital. He is also an associate clinical professor of dermatology at Stanford University Medical Center. Dr. Recht founded Sunnyvale Dermatology in 1987, which later became part of California Skin Institute, establishing the group’s presence in Sunnyvale.
Outside of his clinical and academic responsibilities, Dr. Recht actively participates in community education and outreach, offering public lectures and skin cancer screenings.
In his personal time, he enjoys watercolor painting, gardening, travel and time with his family.
