Wonders of Creation: Art, Science, and Innovation in the Islamic World

Don't miss this groundbreaking PST ART exhibition. Wonders of Creation: Art, Science, and Innovation in the Islamic World showcases more than 200 works spanning 13 centuries that invite visitors to explore the intersections of art and science, the marvels of the heavens and earth, and the crafts and customs of humanity. See ancient tools and treasures, ornate jewelry, lavishly illustrated manuscripts, and large-scale works of contemporary art. Step into a world of wonder, as defined by a celebrated medieval Islamic text, celebrating the ingenuity, craftsmanship, and enduring legacy of Islamic scientific and cultural heritage.

Foster + Partners: Architecture of Light and Space

See architectural models and designs by Foster + Partners, the global design team led by Lord Norman Foster, one of the most esteemed international architects of our time and recipient of the prestigious Pritzker Prize for Architecture. This exhibition showcases the team’s award-winning designs and innovations in sustainability, while demonstrating that rejuvenated spaces can respectfully incorporate the past and also integrate natural lighting and optimal views of the surrounding sky and landscape.

Prix Pictet Human

September 1–December 15, 2024

Human, the theme for the tenth cycle of the prestigious international Prix Pictet award delves into the vast spectrum of human experiences, emotions, relationships, and challenges that define our collective existence. MOPA@SDMA is the only US stop on the international tour of Prix Pictet Human. See works by twelve international shortlisted photographers spanning documentary, portraiture, landscape, and studies of light and process, and exploring issues ranging from the plight of Indigenous peoples, conflict, childhood, the collapse of economic processes, to the traces of human habitation and industrial development, gang violence, border lands, and migration.

Highlights from The San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild

November 9, 2024–March 9, 2025

The San Diego Museum of Art Artists Guild, a founding organization of The San Diego Museum of Art, presents 45 juried works of art created by Guild members and curated by Dr. Hugh Marlais Davies, Director Emeritus, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego. This year, the Artists Guild, which includes some of the most significant local artists, architects, and designers as past members, celebrates 109 years as San Diego’s oldest artists’ association.

MOPA@SDMA remains a pay-what-you-wish museum open Thursdays through Sundays 11:00 a.m.– 5:00 p.m. in Balboa Park inside the Casa de Balboa building across from the Lily Pond.

MOPA is now MOPA@SDMA

As of July 1, 2023, the Museum of Photographic Arts and The San Diego Museum of Art have merged to become one unified institution. The Museum of Photographic Arts is now the Museum of Photographic Arts at The San Diego Museum of Art (MOPA@SDMA).

MOPA@SDMA remains a pay-what-you-wish museum open Thursdays through Sundays 11:00 a.m.– 5:00 p.m. in Balboa Park inside the Casa de Balboa building across from the Lily Pond.
