Ingredients You'll Need
- Bisquick Baking Mix - For this particular recipe, just use a plain baking mix that can be easily located at almost any local grocery store in the aisle with the baking products.
- Butter - Make sure it is cold, cold, cold butter. It can be unsalted or salted, whichever you prefer. Cut the butter into cubes or use a box grater to grate it into smaller shreds.
- Cheddar Cheese - Adds a sharp and cheesy flavor to the biscuit mixture. You may grab the pre-shredded bag version, but I prefer to shred a bulk/block of cheddar using a box grater because it melts better and doesn't contain any additional ingredients or preservatives.
- Whole Milk - Be sure to use whole milk and make sure it is cold.
- Garlic - Adds garlic flavor to the biscuits.
- Parsley - Use fresh parsley for this recipe, it really tastes better than dried parsley. Add it to the biscuit batter as well as the butter to top the biscuits.
- Salt - A small amount to balance all the flavors together. I prefer to use kosher salt for baking.
See the recipe card below for exact ingredient quantities and instructions.
Step By Step Instructions
Begin the recipe by preheating the oven to 400 degrees F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper and set it aside.
Add the baking mix to a large bowl along with the cold butter. Using a pastry cutter or large fork to combine the two ingredients together until it resembles a coarse meal. Be careful not to mix it too much. There should be small chunks of butter that are pea-sized.
Add shredded cheddar cheese, whole milk, minced garlic, and fresh parsley. Mix with a rubber spatula or clean/gloves hands until combined into a loose dough ball.
Grab the prepared baking sheet and drop about ¼ cup of biscuit dough onto the baking sheet. Try to form it into a round shape, like a biscuit. Continue this process until no more biscuit dough is left.
Place into the oven and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, until lightly browned. Carefully remove the biscuits from the oven. In a small bowl, stir together the melted butter, fresh parsley, and salt until combined. Brush evenly on the tops of each warm biscuit. Serve warm and enjoy!
Recipe Tips & Tricks
- Make sure the whole milk and butter are cold to make the best biscuits.
- Cut the butter into small cube pieces or use a boxed grater to shred the butter into the baking mixture. This process will create more even butter pieces in the biscuits.
- Do not overwork the dough, it will make the biscuits tough. Stop mixing once the dough comes together and sticks to itself.
- If the dough is too sticky or wet, try adding a little more baking mix. But only add a little at a time.
Storage
Store any leftovers in an airtight container or plastic storage bag in the refrigerator for up to 4 days. They may also be stored at room temperature for 1 to 2 days.
