Someone recently asked me about my process for coming up with recipes.

I had to pause and think about it for a second. A highly organized blogger probably has an elaborate content calendar that focuses on recipes that coordinate with the time of year and holidays. In the beginning, I tried to be that blogger and the truth is it just didn’t fit with my personality.

I prefer to work more organically and build recipes that feel right and what my audience wants. The only other thing that dictates my recipe decisions is what ingredients I already have in my kitchen.

It is no secret that food waste is a problem. Annually 1.3 billion tons of food ends up in landfills. That is literally enough food to feed 3 billion people and honestly I have been a contributor to this number. It happens innocently enough by buying food and forgetting about it until I find it weeks later pushed in the back of the refrigerator into the forgotten place. When I realized that I was part of the problem, I wanted to put forth more effort not to buy more food than I need, share meals with friends, and freeze as much food as I possibly can.

By the way, this Homemade Sour Cream Pound Cake freezes beautifully and is just as good once thawed.

Now, Back to Food Waste

I also try to come up with recipes that are based on the ingredients I have on hand. Sometimes it can be as simple as making a batch of breakfast burritos and other times I decide to use the excess of cheddar and parsley that I have to make a batch of cheddar biscuits.

These biscuits are light, fluffy, and comfort food at its best. They are loaded with cheddar cheese and balanced out with the addition of fresh parsley. So many amazing flavors in one delicious biscuit. This is a recipe that you certainly want to save and give a try!
