Amazon Prime Day 2026 runs from Jun. 23-26.
What is Prime Day in October?
Amazon's Prime Day in October event started in October 2022 and kicks off the holiday shopping season. This year's event is called Prime Big Deal Days and is running for 48 hours between Oct. 7-8. It's much shorter than the main Prime Day earlier in the year.
This is a Prime members-only event, so if you want to make the most of potential savings on this event, make sure you sign up to Amazon Prime before Oct. 7. It may even be worth signing up before then as there are often early deals in the weeks and days leading up to it.
What is Amazon Prime Day?
Prime Day is Amazon's largest annual sale and is exclusively for Amazon Prime members. While some non-Prime offers may be available, the best discounts are reserved for members. Last year saw the first four-day Amazon Prime Day, running from July 8 - July 11 2025.
Do I need to be an Amazon Prime member to get Prime Day deals?
Yes. While some deals are available sitewide, the best offers are often exclusively for Amazon Prime members. To access all eligible deals, consumers must sign up for a Prime membership, which currently costs 14.99permonthor14.99 per month or 14.99permonthor139 per year. New subscribers can also start a free 30-day Prime trial, provided they have not been a member previously.
How to sign up for a free 30-day Amazon Prime trial:
1. Go to Amazon Prime.
2. Select "Start your free trial."
3. Follow on-screen instructions.
4. Begin browsing Prime-exclusive deals.
Prime Day began in 2015 to celebrate Amazon's 20th anniversary and to encourage consumer spending outside the traditional holiday season. The online retailer aimed to "offer a volume of deals greater than Black Friday." The annual sale has grown significantly, prompting other retailers to offer their own competitive deals. We will provide updates on offers from Amazon and other major retailers, including Walmart, Best Buy and Target.
Pro tips for Prime Day preparation
Prime Day is one of the year's biggest shopping events, so a little preparation can lead to significant savings. These six tips can help you find the best deals efficiently:
1. Use the Amazon Prime free trial: This is an excellent option for those who hane't tried Amazon Prime before. Since Prime Day is for Prime members only, first-time subscribers can take advantage of a 30-day free trial.
2. Watch other retailers, too: Other companies often offer sales to compete with Amazon during Prime Day. Check Walmart, Best Buy and other big box stores, as their deals might be comparable or even better, and you won't need a Prime membership to participate.
3. Know what you want to buy: Consult our buying guides at Space.com to prepare for the event. Our best telescopes guide highlights devices for spotting celestial objects, while our Lego Star Wars Deals and general Lego deals can help builders of all ages. We will update these pages leading up to Prime Day.
4. Stay flexible: During Prime Day, we will strive to show you different versions of the same product or equivalent items to help you make informed choices. Deals can expire quickly, so avoid getting fixated on a single product. Flexible shoppers often find more satisfaction.
5. Start early: Early bird deals are often among the best, especially for high-demand items with limited stock, such as new Lego sets, specific binoculars or telescopes. Grab these items quickly before they disappear. While smaller gifts may not have as much demand, it's generally best to act immediately if you really want a specific item.
6. Check back regularly: Amazon rapidly updates its pricing throughout the event, and Space.com will do the same. We often see significant deals appear in the final hours as stock is released or new offers emerge on the Amazon website. Keep refreshing our pages, and we will guide you through the busy four days of Prime Day.
Amazon Prime Day, or wait for Black Friday?
Prime Day vs Black Friday?
Amazon Prime Day and Black Friday both offer significant sales on popular items like binoculars, telescopes, Star Wars kits and board games. Deciding when to make a purchase requires careful consideration.
If you are an Amazon loyalist, Prime Day may be your primary shopping event. While other stores like Best Buy, Target and Walmart participate, they often reserve their most aggressive sales for Black Friday. Additionally, Prime Day's member-exclusive nature can provide a shopping advantage.
Naturally, if you prefer to receive your items sooner, Prime Day is the time to buy. However, if you want a wider range of retailers to consider, we will also keep you informed about Black Friday opportunities later in the year. Stay tuned to Space.com in the weeks leading up to Black Friday for our coverage of the best space deals, extending through Cyber Monday.
Is Prime Day next day delivery?
Where's my stuff from Prime Day?
Depending on location and time of ordering you may not receive your items via next day delivery, even if you have an Amazon Prime membership and have bought in the Prime Day deals.
