Welcome
Our history spans many millennia of living on and governing our territory, with a culture created from our lands, waters, and people over generations. We continue to practice many of the traditions, customs, and ways of our ancestors and pass them onto future generations.
Learn About Our Nation
The Squamish Nation, known as Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw in our language, traces its roots back to multiple physical communities, or úxwumixw, before becoming a government entity in 1923. Most of our community resides on the North Shore of Vancouver, with a smaller population living in Squamish along the Squamish River.
Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Members and community members can access a variety of programs and services offered by the Nation's administration, including education, language, recreation, emergency supports, and more.
Nexwsxwníw̓ntm ta Úxwumixw (Council) is the decision-making body that sets the overall direction and policy agenda of Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw, both internally and externally. Their guidance ensures the Nation is provided with an effective administration, strong financial and resource stewardship, robust risk management, and effective service delivery.
Membership Code
Our Membership Code lays out the rules and ways for becoming a Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Member based on our laws and traditions.
Members have raised concerns that the current Code leaves out some of our grandchildren and children. Bill S-3 provides an opportunity to engage our Members on what changes they would like to see and update our Code.
