Hawaii Hilo’s Dylan Bercan shot a final-round, 2-under-par 70 to finish in a five-way tie for 18th at the NCAA Division II Men’s Golf Championships in Boulder City, Nev.

Bercan, a senior from Vancouver, British Columbia, posted a three-round total of 211 at Boulder Creek Golf Club. South Carolina Beaufort’s Octavio Laurent won with a 199.

Bercan was 3-over through 12 holes in the final round, but he eagled No. 13 and birdied the next three holes.

Bercan and Nick Mason (2004) are the only two Vulcan men to have competed as individuals at the NCAA National Championships.

5 UH tennis players earn academic honors

The Hawaii women’s tennis team had three players and the UH men placed two on the College Sports Communicators Tennis Academic All-District team.

Allaire Berl, Makeilah Nepomuceno and Sophie Rachor were honored for the Rainbow Wahine, and Adriano Dzhenev and Timothy Li made it for the Rainbow Warriors.

To be eligible, student-athletes must have maintained a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 and competed in the lineup in at least 75 percent of their teams’ scheduled competitions. Community service also was factored in.
