Merlion Park (Places of Interests) (original) (raw)
The Merlion in Merlion Park near the Singapore CBD is a well-known tourist icon of Singapore. The lion head represents Singapore's original name — Singapura — meaning "lion city" or "kota singa".
Standing tall at 8.6 metres high and weighs as heavy as 70 tonnes, it was designed since 1964. The Singapore Merlion is made of cement fondue, its skin from porcelain plates and eyes from small red teacups.
