Eight years ago, one of the most glamorous society weddings Europe has ever seen took place: Pierre Casiraghi, the grandson of Grace Kelly, married Beatrice Borromeo, the beautiful daughter of an Italian Count and a member of one of the most ancient aristocratic families in the country.

The celebrations began on 25 July in Monaco, with a civil ceremony and party for more than 700 guests at the Grimaldi Palace and the Hotel de Paris in Monte Carlo, hosted by the groom’s mother, Princess Caroline of Monaco, and uncle, Prince Albert II (husband of Princess Charlene). The bride wore a beautiful pale pink lace chiffon gown for the ceremony, designed by Valentino. It was to be one of a handful worn across her various celebrations.

This was followed by a religious ceremony and reception held in northern Italy on 1 August, on the islands owned by the Borromeo family in Lago Maggiore. The former was attended by a small group of family and guests on the smaller island of Isolino de San Giovani, while the party afterwards saw some 600 guests joining the couple on the island of Rocca d’Angera.

The picture of elegance, Beatrice Borromeo (now Beatrice Casiraghi) wore a boat neck, lace sleeved gown by Giorgio Armani for the religious ceremony, changing into a low-cut, sleeveless gown for the reception afterwards. For the pre-wedding dinner on the Friday evening, she wore a lace-trimmed white gown by Alberta Ferretti with silver gladiator sandals, as well as flowers in her hair.

The wedding was attended by the wider Monégasque royal family, including the groom’s siblings, Andrea and Charlotte Casiraghi, his half-sister, Princess Alexandra of Hanover, as well as his aunt, Princess Stéphanie, and her daughter, Pauline Ducruet. His mother Princess Caroline, the muse and friend of the late Karl Lagerfeld, wore a series of custom-made Chanel looks, as did her daughter, Princess Alexandra.

Others in attendance included royalty Crown Prince Haakon and Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway, singer Lana del Rey and her then Italian boyfriend Francesco Carrozzini and his mother, the late Vogue Italia Editor-in-Chief Franca Sozzani.
