Kindergarten to Second Grade

  8. Old McDonald's Farm - The focus is on the student's ability to count collectively.
  9. Phone Number Melodies - In this lesson, students are introduced to the C-scale. Students use phone numbers to compose melodies.
  10. Recognizing High and Low Pitch - The students should also ?be able to classify a sound as having a high or low pitch after listening to an excerpt.
  11. Slow and Fast Tempo - Demonstrate slow and fast tempo through movement To teach the concept and understanding of slow and fast tempo through movement with a home-aid tambourine.
  12. Solfege ( Do - So ) - The student will be able to name the notes, to write the notes and to sing the notes and the important thing is to memorizes the notes.

Third to Fifth Grade

  1. Christmas Melodies - To be able to compose a Christmas melody. Using relevant instruments, and relevant wording.
  2. Haunted house - To be able to determine what we feel makes a song sound scary.
  3. Introduction & Liturgy Preparation - Introduction of teacher, classroom guidelines and expectations, and preparation for liturgy.
  4. Learning Basic Rhythms - This assignment is intended for 3rd graders, and aims to teach the students the values of different notes, and their function within the measures.
  5. Music of the 1920s - Compare and contrast music from the 1920s to today's music.
  6. Pitch and Performance - Students should then discuss how these songs are similar to each other and determine possible characteristics of 1920s music to be written on the board.
  7. "Quarter Note Rock" - TSW perform quarter notes with proper rhythmic accuracy, correct note length, and adequate tone quality.
  8. Recorder Karate - Groups should be able to play their chosen song with a minimum of mistakes.
  9. Recorder Lesson 3 - Students will be introduced to concept of time signatures.
  10. Rubber Band Kleenex Box - The learner will understand that the length of an instrument dictates the pitch.
  11. Stage Makeup - Students will demonstrate how to apply stage makeup in different steps.

Middle School

  1. American Idol Judge for a Day - An excellent lesson from our friends over at TheApple. Students learn how professionals identify quality singing ability. Based on National Music Standards this lesson will make for a fun day in your classroom. Also comes complete with a judging rubric and judge's criteria worksheet.
  2. Be A Pop/R&B Recording Artist - Using facial expressions with music.
  3. Beat- Learning the fundamentals of music requires students to recognize the techniques of playing a musical instrument, with key considerations for how the music has been put together to communicate something purposeful.
  4. D string notes - TLW understand that each time a finger is placed in diatonic manner the pitch is raised on the instrument and the note name changes to one alphabet name higher.
  5. Finding the beat - The student will locate music books and recordings related to the rhythm of music from various countries.
  6. First note on a brass instrument - Making a quality sound on a brass instrument, using correct posture and hand positions.
  7. Instruments 101 - Give the students a choice in what instrument they want to learn but make them understand only a certain amount of people may play each instrument.
  8. Putting together instruments - Flute, clarinet, oboe, bassoon, reeds, water containers book for each student with instructions, extra cleaning clothes, cork grease.
  9. Producing your first note - Students will learn how to shape their embouchure and blow into their instrument to produce a characteristic tone on the clarinet.
  10. Proper Breathing - By the end of the lesson, students should understand how to breathe properly and know what constitutes a good breathe.

  5. Composing Sightsinging Melodies - This lesson deals with solfege, music literacy, basic sightsinging skills, and notation.
  6. Developing a Successful Show Choir - By the end of the first grading period there should be a marked improvement in the students overall performance level and confidence.
  7. Efficient Trumpet Performance - Demonstrate knowledge of basic fundamentals needed for efficient performance on trumpet.
  8. Eighth Note Patterns - Students will understand how to count and read rhythms with eighth notes.
  9. Jazz Improv - Students will have an understanding of the Bb blues and have basic knowledge of improvising on their instrument with in a small ensemble.
