Everton plotting to hijack two transfers for Ben Brereton Diaz and Nottingham Forest target Neal Maupay (original) (raw)

Everton are reportedly hoping to pull off the £10million transfer of Blackburn Rovers marksman, Ben Brereton Diaz, though he is not the only striker in their sights.

Brereton Diaz has been one of the most sought after players in England over the past few months. Indeed, the Blackburn Rovers star notched 22 goals in the Championship last season.

As such, it became clear that he was ready for the step up to a higher level.

The Chile international has been a reported target of a number of Premier League sides. Leeds United and West Ham United have seemed two of the likeliest destinations.

While the Hammers’ noise died down following their signing of Gianluca Scamacca, Leeds have remained in the mix. However, according to CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs, the Whites too have cooled their interest. The reasons why were detailed here – along with who Leeds are now chasing.

That’s left the door ajar for the Toffees, and the Daily Mail report Everton are interested in taking him to Goodison Park. Frank Lampard wants to replace Richarlison and Brereton Diaz could be a useful asset.

However, the pursuit will not be plain sailing for the Toffees.

French side Nice have already tabled a £10million bid for the Blackburn hitman. As such, Everton may need to act fast if they are to beat the Ligue 1 side to his signature.

Brereton Diaz not only Toffees striker target

Should they not manage to land the Chile international, Everton have another target in mind to fill the striker position. Neal Maupay is said to be another striker on Lampard’s shortlist.

There is also strong interest in the Frenchman from Nottingham Forest, meaning Everton may have a battle on their hands for whichever star they choose to pursue.

The signing of Maupay may be a smarter one than that of Brereton Diaz. While the latter has been in top form over the past year, he has been playing in the Championship and there are no guarantees he can carry that on in the Premier League.

Maupay, on the other hand, is entering his fourth season plying his trade in the English top flight. While he has not set the league alight, he has bagged at least eight goals in every season he has played in the Premier League.

As such, the safest bet may be to go for Maupay, though a gamble on Brereton Diaz could pay off. Either way, adding another striker into the mix is essential for Everton.
