Newcastle chasing surprise striker who's laid failed Prem stint to rest at Euro giant (original) (raw)

Newcastle are intensifying their interest in an Italian forward who is rebounding well in Serie A while on loan from Everton.

Since their takeover, Newcastle have significantly improved their squad and they are keen on taking another step forward.

Alexander Isak was their marquee signing in the summer, but they have not yet seen much of him due to injury. In total he has only played 244 minutes of Premier League football for Newcastle.

In that time he has scored two goals and Newcastle fans will be excited to have him back in the new year.

Callum Wilson has been their main talisman this season, although his injury record has often been called into question. In 11 appearances he has scored six goals this season and deservedly earnt a spot in England’s 26-man squad for Qatar.

The 30-year-old came off the bench against Iran and provided an assist for Jack Grealish to seal England’s 6-2 win.

As Wilson does tend to miss a chunk of each season through injury, Newcastle are looking at strengthening their forward options and adding more depth.

Eddie Howe’s side have scored 29 goals this season and currently sit third in the Premier League.

Moise Kean would be an interesting signing

According to reports, Newcastle are looking into the possibility of signing Kean who is currently on loan from Everton at Juventus.

As reported by Juve Dipendenza, Kean is said to have ‘many admirers’ in the Premier League. The report also cites that Newcastle are ‘one of the teams most interested’ in bringing in the Italian forward.

The 22-year-old made a name for himself at Juventus before making a shock move to Everton in 2019.

His career in Merseyside hasn’t exactly gone to plan though and he has spent the last three seasons out on loan.

In total for the Toffees he has scored just four goals across 39 appearances. The move wasn’t a natural fit for the player and in the end it was no surprise to see him return to Juventus on loan.

He also spent a year at PSG in 2020-21 where he scored 17 goals in 43 appearances.

Kean has improved at Juventus

Kean seems to have found his feet at Juventus as of late too. He has scored five goals in his last five appearances for a Juventus side who are gradually getting back on track.

Seven of his 13 league appearances have come from the bench as he has primarily been used as an impact substitute.

The Italian forward signed with Juventus on a two-year loan which included the obligation to buy at the end of this season.

However, Juventus might be prepared to negotiate a deal with Newcastle if they offer a tempting transfer fee for the forward.

Newcastle certainly aren’t short of cash and will have the ability to match any offer. The report suggests that Juventus would be interested in Allan Saint-Maximin, although it would take a lot for Newcastle to sell.

Kean is a more well-rounded player since he was at Everton. Perhaps he wants another crack in the Premier League.
