Liverpool could receive a significant cash boost if Tottenham complete a deal for Southampton striker Danny Ings this summer.

A report in the Telegraph on Tuesday claims that Spurs have renewed their interest in the forward, as doubts continue over Harry Kane’s long-term future in north London. However, the report actually states that Nuno Espirito Santo actually wants to pair Ings with the England skipper, with Tottenham so far refusing to budge over his desire to leave.

Ings is being tipped to move on this summer after so far refusing to sign a new Saints contract.

The 29-year-old has now entered the final year of his contract, meaning he could leave for nothing in 2022.

That is not something that the St Mary’s hierarchy are prepared to let happen. To that end, Ings could be available in a cut-price £20million transfer.

Clever clause leaves Liverpool quids in

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds put a 20% sell-on clause in the deal that took Ings to Southampton.

That could see the Anfield outfit pocket £4m to boost Jurgen Klopp’s transfer coffers.

Liverpool could also opt to try and re-sign the player for £16m, although that route is highly unlikely.

One thing is for sure, the Reds will keeping an eye on developments regarding Ings’ future in the coming weeks.
