Micah Richards has revealed all about his blossoming on-screen partnership with Roy Keane – and insists the Irishman is one of the sharpest, funniest people he knows.

Like Gary Neville and Jamie Carragher, Keane and Richards have formed a great partnership , despite being like chalk and cheese.

The pair’s comments often liven up the dullest of games, with Richards’ humour and Keane’s crotchety manner often essential viewing.

Irishman Keane portrays himself as something of a grumpy soul. But Richards insists it’s something of a play for the cameras and says the Manchester United legend is a great character.

“A lot of people ask me about Roy outside of work. I don’t know him, I don’t ring him, I don’t text him,” Richards told the latest Super 6 Podcast.

Prompted by host Laura Woods to reveal more, Richards added: “Behind the scenes though he is just the nicest, funniest guy. He’s so sharp you know, he’s just on it. When football clicks into gear, that’s when his passion shines through. People think his on-air presonality is a facade, but that’s his genuine passion for the game. It’s all real.

“But as a person.. I have to be careful about how he’s perceived. I don’t want people to think I’m benefitting off him. Yes, it’s a double act, but I have to be careful as to what levels people can see him at.”

Richards tips Chelsea for Champions League glory

Keane isn’t the only man often misjudged and Richards also had warm words for Chelsea and Thomas Tuchel.

The Blues have been in brilliant form since Tuchel replaced Frank Lampard in January. They are unbeaten in 14 games since the German’s appointment, having only conceded an incredible two goals in that time. During that time, Chelsea have climbed from ninth to fourth in the Premier League and are also into the FA Cup semi-finals.

However, it’s in the Champions League that Richards feels offers Chelsea a genuine chance of success.

“Chelsea are dark horses you know,” Richards told the latest Super 6 Podcast. “I did a piece a couple of months ago saying it’s a disgrace that Frank Lampard is out the door. And then Tuchel comes in and I was like ‘how’s that? No!’

“But actually look at them now. They’ve only conceded like two or three goals. They’ve got Porto next [in the Champions League] and then Real Madrid or Liverpool. Neither of them are playing that well and then next thing, they’re in the final.”
