Roma agree to sign second Leeds Utd flop, as West Ham forward torches Moyes to spark Mourinho link-up (original) (raw)
Jose Mourinho is set to sign a second Leeds Utd misfit, while his Roma side have also been namechecked in an explosive interview by West Ham striker Gianluca Scamacca.
Roma have already signed one Leeds Utd flop this summer upon securing a second loan spell for Diego Llorente. The Spaniard featured sparingly during a six-month stint in Italy last season, though Roma saw fit to double down with a second spell.
Now, according to Fabrizio Romano, Roma are primed to add Rasmus Kristensen to their defensive ranks too.
The Denmark international, 25, was a roughly £10m signing from RB Salzburg last summer. Kristensen excelled in Austria while playing as a wing-back, though found the going much tougher in the Premier League.
Per Romano, Kristensen will now join Roma for the 2023/24 campaign on a season-long loan. Whether there’ll be an option or obligation to buy wasn’t made clear.
The transfer guru concluded the deal is agreed on both the player and club ends. As such, a medical is all that remains before the move is signed off.
Scamacca pining for Rome return
Elsewhere, West Ham’s Gianluca Scamacca certainly sounds like he’d love to join Llorente and Kristensen in Rome too.
The Italy international was born in the Italian capital and spent time in Roma’s youth ranks between 2012-15.
Much was expected from Scamacca at West Ham following his £35.5m arrival (including add-ons) from Sassuolo. However, Scamacca flattered to deceive, with Michail Antonio finishing the season back as the starting centre-forward.
Now, a remarkable interview Scamacca has given to Gazzetta dello Sport has emerged, with the Italian insisting he dreams of being coached by Roma boss Mourinho.
Scamacca did stress he feels good at West Ham, though his love of Roma and the city of his birth clearly shone through.
“I have always reasoned with my heart and I will continue to do so too in the future,” said Scamacca (as quoted by TuttoMercatoWeb).
“And you know what the two colours of my heart are. But now I’m a West Ham player and, despite all the rumours, I feel good here too.
“For me, Rome is home, and Totti, my childhood idol.
“What player in the world wouldn’t dream of being coached by Mourinho? I am convinced that Mourinho would stimulate me and I would improve even more with him.”
