Former Worcester Academy and St. John's High star T.J. Power stepped into the spotlight in a big way for Penn, as the Shrewsbury native scored 44 points, including a pair of 3-pointers in the final seven seconds of regulation, to help the Quakers advance to the NCAA Tournament with an 88-84 victory over Yale in the Ivy League championship game Sunday, March 15, at Ithaca, N.Y.
Power added 14 rebounds and was 14 of 26 from the floor while making seven of 14 3-pointers. It was the first game of at least 40 points in the history of the Ivy League tournament.
Power, who played at Duke and Virginia earlier in his career, added four more points in overtime, all on free throws, as Penn (18-11) advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2018 while under first-year head coach Fran McCaffery, and just the second time since 2008.
