The Critics' Choice awards, presented on the same day as this year's Oscar nominations were released, have recognised many of the same films and stars that triumphed at the Golden Globes and those that are tipped for Academy Awards success.

12 Years a Slave was named best picture, while best director went to Alfonso Cuaron for Gravity, a film which won seven of its nominated categories. Best supporting actress was awarded to Lupita Nyong'o for 12 Years a Slave, after Jennifer Lawrence won the same category at the Golden Globes.

Cate Blanchett and Matthew McConaughey were the winners of the lead acting awards. Benedict Cumberbatch was named Hollywood's Hottest Star in a prize that was voted for by fans, but he was not present at the ceremony.

The Critics' Choice awards are given annually by the Broadcast Film Critics Association (BFCA), which claims them to be the most accurate predictor for the Academy Awards.
