Washington Justice hitscan DPS Corey "Corey" Nigra is the latest Overwatch League star to leave the competitive Overwatch scene for a career in Riot's VALORANT.

Corey has played for Washington since late 2018, previously competing as a member of Evil Geniuses and later Gladiators Legion. The 20-year-old's contribution to the United States' 2019 Overwatch World Cup win, combined with his lethal aim and mechanical skills has quickly made him a fan favorite for not only fans of the Washington Justice, but for all fans of the Overwatch League.

"It is surreal to think about all the moments I got to spend doing something that I truly loved and was able to share that with all of the fans," Corey said in a personal statement. "Being able to participate in the OWL is a milestone in my life that will live with me forever. I will never forget all the adoring fans cheering us on through thick and thin, always giving the support I needed to keep my head held high and focus forward. I cannot thank you all enough, and I hope you all support me in my next step in life.

"I’m leaving to pursue a game that really hit home for me. VALORANT." Corey went on to explain that it has always been a dream of his to play professional Counter-Strike, and that "seeing VALORANT as a hybrid between CS and OW, this looks like the game that was made for [him]."

In his heartfelt statement, Corey took the time to thank a number of his teammates, coaches, friends and close ones. He also specifically thanked Blizzard, saying "Blizzard, ultimately you’ve created the experience to build all my amazing memories inside. The OWL is what it all revolved around for me to meet so many amazing people from fans to players to families around the world."

Corey should have no issue finding a team to play VALORANT under. He possesses some of the best aim mechanics in the world, and his name holds as much value as anyone's.

This decision leaves the Washington Justice and the Overwatch League in peculiar positions. Blizzard's flagship league is currently suffering through the losses of multiple stars, most notably Jay "sinatraa" Won, who left Overwatch to play VALORANT for Sentinels.

Washington, who were already considered one of the worst teams in the league, is now left without their best player. It's currently unknown how the organization will attempt to rebound, but the outlook for them doesn't seem good.
