US porn actor's HIV test prompts calls for moratorium on production (original) (raw)

The adult film industry in the US has called for a moratorium on production after an actor tested positive for HIV.

The 29-year-old, who uses the screen name Cameron Bay, was confirmed to have the virus last week.

The Free Speech Coalition, a Los Angeles-based trade organisation for the industry, called for a suspension of filming pending tests for other performers.

It said there was no evidence Bay contracted the virus, which causes Aids, on set. But the news will undermine its opposition to a Los Angeles County measure passed by voters last year requiring porn actors to wear condoms.

"As difficult as this news is for me I am hopeful that no other performers have been affected. I plan on doing everything possible to assist the medical professionals and my fellow performers," Bay said in a statement. Her long-term goal was to take care of herself and her health, she added.

Bay's agent, Mark Schechter, said she was distraught but had been a model, responsible citizen in coming forward. "Her courage should be lauded," he said. Her previous test, in late July, was negative.

Bay's most recent on-screen partner was reported to be Xander Corvus, who, in a separate production with a different female actor, recently played the disgraced New York mayoral candidate Anthony Weiner.
