The election flying squad seized gold and diamond jewellery worth ₹10.18 crore during a vehicle check near Codissia grounds in Singanallur constituency on Wednesday (April 15).

The seizure was made when a team intercepted a Tempo Traveller van during routine inspection around 3.20 p.m. On checking the vehicle, officials found a large quantity of gold and diamond jewellery reportedly without valid documents.

The person in possession of the consignment, identified as Athiveerapandian, was questioned on the spot. Preliminary inquiry revealed that the valuables were being transported to a private firm.

Following the seizure, the jewellery was taken to the Coimbatore South Taluk Office, where officials conducted an assessment. The total value of the seized items was estimated at ₹10,18,21,000.

Subsequently, the valuables were deposited in the government treasury for safekeeping.
