Dementia news and views - The Mirror US (original) (raw)

Dementia is a progressive neurological disorder that affects cognitive function, memory, and daily functioning. It encompasses a range of conditions, with Alzheimer's disease being the most common form. Dementia often begins subtly, with forgetfulness and confusion, but worsens over time, impacting language, problem-solving abilities, and even personality. It results from damage to brain cells, which disrupts communication between them. While age is a significant risk factor, dementia can also affect younger individuals due to genetic factors or other underlying conditions. There is currently no cure.
