Ex-adult film star Emily Willis' family has shared an intriguing poem about her resilience amid fan concerns for her health update.

Emily will have a much different life than the glamorous one she once knew if she recovers at all, a doctor told Daily Star exclusively after she woke from a vegetative coma.

Since confirming in May that Emily had emerged from the coma following her emergency transport to a facility in Thousand Oaks, California, on February 5, her family updates ceased. They informed the public that while she regained consciousness, she couldn't speak and was only tracking objects with her eyes.

American news outlets are buzzing with numerous high-quality stories.

Though not a direct health report, Emily's family recently posted a poem to her GoFundMe page that talks of a tenacious Capricorn woman, hinting at some positive development or at least her continued fight for recovery, reports the Daily Star.

The poem begins: "In winter's embrace, beneath Capricorn's gaze, A brunette with fire, through life's complex maze."

Continuing, it vividly describes her: "Her beauty, a beacon, in night's deepest dark, Her spirit, a flame, forever to spark."

It accentuates her bravery and elegance: "With courage as armor, and grace in her fight, She moves with a purpose, her goals in plain sight."

The poem concludes by touching upon her inner strength: "Her beauty, not just in the curve of her smile, But in her fierce will to conquer each mile."

"Capricorn's daughter, both lovely and strong, In her heart, there's a power, where all dreams belong."

"Through challenges, she dances, with life, she entwines, A testament to beauty, and strength that defines."

Gareth Nye, Programme Lead for Medical Science at the University of Chester, shared his insights with the Daily Star on the heartbreaking case. He believes Emily is now experiencing "locked-in syndrome" due to "brain damage" sustained after her cardiac arrest in February.

Tragically, he indicated that Emily's future seems to be one requiring constant care, as she is unable to speak or move. Dr. Nye suspects that Emily is dealing with "locked-in syndrome" and fears "likely she will never recover" beyond being able to make basic eye and facial movements.

"She may never recover past this stage and that is the more likely outcome," Dr. Nye expressed to the Star. "Recovering from such a traumatic event and a coma is incredibly challenging."

"We are witnessing the consequences of brain damage following oxygen deprivation after the cardiac arrest. It's a positive sign that she appears conscious, recognizes people, and can follow with her eyes. Yet, it's highly probable she has 'locked-in syndrome'," he concluded.

Locked-in syndrome essentially means a person is fully aware of their surroundings and emotions, but can only move their eyes.

"Locked-in syndrome is a condition caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain stem which is a crucial part of our brain," explained Dr Nye. "All communication to and from the brain, for example movement, bodily functions etc., run through the brain stem first so any damage here is devastating for the individual."

"Locked-in syndrome is essentially where a patient is aware of their surroundings and has full consciousness but cannot move or communicate verbally due to complete paralysis of nearly all voluntary muscles in the body, except for vertical eye movements and blinking."

"Some patients do retain some facial muscle movement and may retain some sensation in their limbs but crucially have no movement at all below the neck."

While we know Emily was able to track things with her eyes back in May, there's been no official update to indicate her progress. But, if she is still conscious and aware, Dr Nye said not being able to touch or speak to the people she loves most will be an "awful experience".

Some patients suffering with locked-in syndrome have been able to develop a level of communication via blinking and eye movements, Dr Nye said, however, almost all patients "regain no control of their muscles".

He remarked: "She may never recover past this stage and that is the more likely outcome. Being able to fully move and gain normality is extremely unlikely and would take years of intensive work to make any progress. It all depends on her specific damage. There are some very exceptional cases which have seen patients go on to make a recovery."

Emily's stepfather, Michael Willis, confirmed in March that Emily had been in rehab for eight days before she suffered a cardiac arrest while undergoing treatment, as per TMZ reports. Initially, police suspected that the 25 year old's illness was due to an "overdose" but Michael stated that doctors had indicated the early toxicology screen was negative.

Michael disclosed to the media that Emily weighed a mere 80 pounds (5st 7lbs) when she admitted herself into the facility. Although her weight is concerning, it's not certain if it contributed to her severe illness.

He also mentioned that Emily was determined to get better and was "very open" about getting help for her "substance abuse problem".
