Lisa Marie Presley's daughter Riley Keough discusses moments leading up to Elvis Presley's death

Lisa Marie Presley's daughter Riley Keough has shed new light on the moments leading up to Elvis Presley's heartbreaking death in a new candid interview.

In a sneak peek review of her upcoming chat with Oprah Winfrey, the Daisy Jones And The Six actress explained that her late mother Lisa felt a sense of impending doom the morning of her father's death.

Elvis passed away on August 16, 1977 at the age of 47-years-old at his Graceland estate in Memphis, Tennessee. Elvis was found on the face-down on the floor of his upstairs bathroom before being rushed to the hospital. The singer's cause of death was later determined to be due to a heart attack and was suspected to be a result of an interaction of an antihistamine, codeine, and Demerol (a painkiller), as well as Valium and several other tranquilizers.

And while Elvis' death came as a shock to the world, Riley claimed that his daughter Lisa "sensed" it coming as she often witnessed her father looking "out of it" after leaving the bathroom. In handwritten letters, Lisa would write about her fears of her father dying at just nine-years-old.

Oprah brought this up in her interview with Riley, as she questioned: "The morning of Elvis' death your mother woke up and knew instinctively that something was off. You want to tell us about that? She's nine years old and most of us remember when we were nine years old."

To which Riley explained: "Yeah, definitely. I think this is the first time she's ever talked in detail about his death in the book. She said goodnight to him and I think she knew saying goodnight: like she had some kind of a sense - I think she had a sense many times that he wasn't okay."

The 35-year-old actress continued: "She would tell me that sometimes she would find him in his bathroom looking kind of out of it or holding onto the railing to stand up straight," She then handed over a copy of her mother's handwritten letters as she added: "She also write these letters when she was little that we have kind of saying, 'I hope my daddy doesn't die.' So there was some kind of sense there."

Lisa's letters and more are featured in her memoir From Here To The Great Unknown, which Riley helped to finish following her mother's death. Lisa Marie died in January 2023 due to a small bowel obstruction. Riley's full-length interview 'An Oprah Special: The Presleys — Elvis, Lisa Marie, and Riley' will air on CBS on Tuesday, October 8 at 8 PM EST.
