Social media users are blasting an idiotic couple in Key West, Florida after they were spotted taking selfies near the ocean as Hurricane Milton began unleashing its fury upon the storm-weary state. The couple was spotted while several stations set up a live stream so those in other states could watch the destruction unfold.

"I went on a live webcam broadcast from Florida to see how things are going with Milton and I found people going to the seaside to take selfies with floats,"

one X user. " Humanity never ceases to amaze me. A second person

: "I'm literally watching ppl in Key West rn taking selfies and recording videos while wind and water is picking up from Hurricane Milton ...tf is wrong with you dummies?!"

Sadly, it appears selfies were not the worst thing that could come out of the hurricane that drove thousands of people from their homes. Other people have taken to gallivanting around in floating devices and one mand was even spotted doing push-ups as the waves crashed around him.

"You're in an evacuation zone, for what looks like will be one of the most devastating #hurricane to ever hit the US in a few hours," a third person sneered. "So what do you do? You go and take selfies wearing inflatable swim rings and make fun," a third person

. "Seriously people wtf. Other EMS people will have to risk their life for your dumb ass... People are out there taking selfies," a fourth person

.

If that wasn't bad enough, one person revealed on the social media site that one person had attempted to

their house down using what appears to be heavy-duty restrainers. "I know that's right," the caption read. One person commented saying: "Someone please update me post-hurricane about this house specifically."

The anger at the selfie-takers comes as hundreds of residents have been warned to flee their homes and to seek safety in Hurrican shelters. "This is literally catastrophic, and I can say without dramatization whatsoever — if you choose to stay in one of those evacuation areas, you're gonna die," Tampa Mayor Jane Castor told CNN. "Anyone who was born and raised in the Tampa Bay area has never seen anything like this."

As of Wednesday, the storm was reduced to a Category 3 level with sustained winds of 160 mph, reported the National Hurricane Center. According to experts, they believe that the hurricane will retain its strength even after making landfall. The rapid strengthening of Milton has baffled many experts who have attributed Milton's incredible strength to the fact that it has been drawing on the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico.

According to hurricane experts, the storm is expected to generate an 8-to 12-foot storm surge as well as douse central Florida with several inches of rain. This is the highest storm surge that the National Hurricane Center has ever predicted. According to the NHC, Milton is "expected to be a dangerous major hurricane" when it reaches the Florida coast. "A northeastward motion with some increase in forward speed is expected" through Wednesday night, the hurricane center said.

Speaking exclusively with The Mirror, weather specialist, Jim Dale, said that due to the size of Milton, residents of Florida might experience widespread damage and dangerous weather phenomena." We could have tornadoes within a hurricane as it crosses land, you could have super tornadoes and the hurricane at the same time. In exactly the same way as hurricanes, there's a league table," said Dale.
