A teen runaway from Arkansas has been shot and killed in Nashville, Tennessee.

Genesis Sarahi Medina Gonzales was taken to Southern Hills Medical Center on Saturday night following being shot multiple times at Smith Springs Park, in Nashville, according to the Metro Nashville Police Department.

The 15-year-old succumbed to the gunshot injuries and died after she was transferred to Vanderbilt Pediatrics.

The man who had picked Genesis up from the park told police the teen was with two men and a woman before shots were fired in the park and he then drove Genesis to the hospital.

He said the young girl had asked him earlier in the day on Saturday to pick her up from the park, according to officials.

When the man came and picked up Genesis he saw the teen with the two men and woman. The MNPD disclosed that the man had gotten out of his car to greet Genesis, and while they were walking back to the car, he heard gunshots. He explained to law enforcement that he witnessed three people fleeing the scene.

Genesis reportedly told the man who was driving her that she had been shot, and that’s when he drove her to a nearby hospital. According to officials, Genesis suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Although the man took her to Southern Hills Medical Center, police transported her to Vanderbilt Pediatrics, which is where she died.

Genesis has a history of running away from home to Nashville, according to authorities. Her mother recently reported her as a runaway from Arkansas. At this time, police explained that active leads are being pursued. Most of the coverage of Genesis’ murder has included a request from the MNPD to the public stating, "Anyone with information on this fatal shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 615-742-7463."
