The sex parties and underground festivities full of degeneracy were reportedly thrown by Dr. Jay Varma and his wife while he was a senior health advisor to then-Mayor Bill de Blasio during the Covid-19 pandemic—when everyone was advised to stay at least six feet apart. The Varma's actions were brought to light through secretly recorded conversations the former health official had with a woman.

“On September 23, 2024, the Board of Directors of SIGA Technologies terminated Dr. Jay Varma, effective immediately, other than for cause, from his position as Executive Vice President and Chief Medical Officer of the Company,” the firm wrote in a filing to the Securities and Exchange Commission.

Scandal aftermath

Varma's enemies have been having a field day with the scandal, including Varma critic and city Councilman Bob Holden who said:

"Dr. Jay Varma’s firing is a step in the right direction, but the consequences for his actions are long overdue," he said in a statement. “Varma boasted about harassing people into submission over the vaccine mandate and admitted to participating in illegal sex parties, all while he, former Health Commissioner Dr. David Chokshi, and then-Mayor Bill de Blasio imposed draconian measures that shut down the entire city. The hypocrisy is outrageous," the Queens Democrat said.

Conservative podcast host Steven Crowder blew the whistle on Dr. Varma's conversation last week, in which he bragged about hosting provocative events all while facilitating the city's Covid response. “I did all this deviant, like sexual stuff,” he said. “I had to be kind of sneaky about it because I was running the entire COVID response in the city.”

Following the doctor's firing, lawmakers, business owners and parents voiced their anger on the steps of City Hall Monday and ripped the Varmas apart. While their businesses lost money and their children lost valuable school time thanks pandemic safety measures that he was in charge of, Varma was constantly removing his mask to engage in sexual activities with strangers.
