Gamers who have grown tired of Fortnite sweats and Call of Duty Warzone chaos have a new third-person battle royale to try: Off The Grid.

The title, developed by Gunzilla Games, certainly has been off the grid because the release of it's early access beta is the first time a lot of players are hearing about this. The game, which is available for Playstation 5, Xbox Series and PC via the Epic Games Store, is still in the early stages, so essentially it isn't complete.

Off The Grid is reportedly the love child of three global gaming studios who "set aside their differences to develop the ultimate adrenaline rush for pro gamers on a dystopian tropical island scarred by a history of corporate warfare," the Early Access announcement said.

The development team, including Film Director, Neill Blomkamp who brought the movie District 9, described the game as a battle royale set in a Cyberpunk-like world that has parallels to his screenplay. Gunzilla has boldly stated the game will shift the entire gaming genre, but we'll have to see. Early access will showcase the game's first locations, weapons, limbs and game modes, giving players. glimpse into what the stripe-less gaming company has to offer.

It also touted an exceptional campaign, which isn't expected to be too long given it's part of a free early access. "Prepare yourself for an immersive narrative campaign on Teardrop Island while simultaneously surviving a battle royale—no problem for an elite gamer such as yourself, right?" the company said in the announcement.

There are also RPG elements to this shooter as players can seemingly earn high-value gear to equip to their shooter. The most interesting element, in my opinion, is the cybernetic limbs, which reportedly come in all shape and sizes and offer a range of abilities players can mix and match with. "Armed with lethal cyberlimbs and hundreds of possible weapon combinations, you’re all set to scramble to the top."

The limbs are also interchangeable mid-match, so that should yield some interesting encounters. That detail matches the aspect of Cyberpunk 2077, released in 2020. In the game, players could visit a street doctor called a "ripper doc" who is able to implant you with powerful cybernetic limbs to alter your abilities. It was one of the main aspects of the game and to see it put to use in a battle royale will certainly be interesting.

As I noted before, Gunzilla has no successful triple a titles under it's belt. However, the studio prides itself in it's staff, which is comprised of developers who've worked on massive hits like Assassin's Creed and other Ubisoft winners. With a budget of about $46 million, the developers seem very confident in their product.
