CELEBRITIES continue to delve into their family histories and unearth their long lost secrets.

The 13th series of Who Do You Think You Are? has shown famous faces tracing their family trees with the help of genealogy experts.

Last week's one-hour episode was cancelled, due to FA Cup football.

However, the BBC favourite is back again tonight at 8.00pm – featuring journalist and Chelsea Flower Show presenter Sophie Raworth.

Each episode of Who Do You Think You Are? follows a celebrity delving into the secrets of their ancestors.

The genealogy programme has been broadcast on the BBC since 2004 and has seen many emotional revelations.

Tough newsman Jeremy Paxman was reduced to tears when he learned of the hardships endured by his grandparents while Patsy Kensit discovered her grandfather was a prolific criminal and J K Rowling found she came from a long line of French single mothers.

Last week Sunetra Sarker investigated her Bengali roots, starting in Kolkata, she learnt about her family's involvement in the struggle for independence in India.

Previously comedian and actor Greg Davies delved into his Welsh past, he said he was 'embarassed' about how little he knew about his late Father's Welsh roots and wanted to explore this more, Actor Warwick Davis also explored his Welsh roots.

Sir Ian McKellen discovered a Victoria political activist and unsurprisingly, links to the theatre

Episode five featured the actor Ricky Tomlinson.

Ricky, best known for his role as Jim Royle in the Royle Family, was born in Lancashire and has lived in Liverpool for almost all of his life.

During the episode, Ricky is shocked to hear a heartbreaking story of how his ancestor’s corpse was raided after he was killed in accident.

Actor Danny Dyer opened the series on November 24. He has worked in television, film and theatre but is best known as Eastenders' Mick Carter. The West Ham United FC fan was born in Canning Town, east London.

The Eastender's actor discovered he’s related to two kings of England, William the Conquerer and Edward III, as well as Thomas Cromwell.

His memorable appearance and trademark direct one-liners delighted fans, who described it as "the best television of 2016".

Portsmouth-born presenter Amanda Holden - best known for her judging role as a Britain's Got Talent judge - delved into the her family's heart-rending history on December 1.

She was followed by Irish television presenter Liz Bonnin, who was born in Paris to a Trinidadian mother of Indian Portuguese descent, and a French father, who was a dentist. She is best known as the face of bang Goes the Theory and Countrywise. She was devastated to discover her ancestors kept slaves during the show.

Girls Aloud singer, solo artist and former X Factor judge Cheryl also delved into her family background on the show. Many fans were moved to tears as she discovered the struggles faced by her relatives.
