AFTER three hilarious seasons, The Good Place is about to come to a bittersweet end.

When does The Good Place season 4 return to Netflix?

NBC confirmed that the final season will premiere on Thursday September 26 in the US.

This means Netflix UK fans will be able to tune in to the shenanigans of Eleanor, Chidi and co on Friday September 27.

It will be the fourth and final season of the hit comedy, consisting of 14 episodes.

New episode will air weekly as fans savour the last updates from Neighbourhood 12358W, while the final installment will run for an hour.

What have the cast said about the final season?

The show's creator Mike Schur explained the decision to end the show on the fourth season.

He said: "After The Good Place was picked up for season two, the writing staff and I began to map out, as best we could, the trajectory of the show.

"Given the ideas we wanted to explore, and the pace at which we wanted to present those ideas, I began to feel like four seasons – just over 50 episodes – was the right lifespan.’

He continued: "At times over the past few years we’ve been tempted to go beyond four seasons, but mostly because making this show is a rare creatively fulfilling joy, and at the end of the day, we don’t want to tread water just because the water is so warm and pleasant. As such, the upcoming fourth season will be our last."

Jameela Jamil then tweeted: "This next season is the FINAL season of @nbcthegoodplace because Mike Schur is the classiest motherforkingshirtball ever and wanted to leave you at the right time in the right way. We love you and we hope you love our goodbye."

How will The Good Place end?

Naturally, the show's ending is being kept a secret until the end.

Season three saw Eleanor was forced to pretend to be The Architect after Michael had a mini melt-down.

And the gang went along with Chidi's brave plan to wipe his memories in order for them to prove to the Judge that humans can change for the better.

Michael Schur told TV Line: " The new dynamic is that she’s pretending to be the leader of this little community, which is a job she doesn’t really like. Eleanor wasn’t a team-leader type of person. And to make matters worse, she has to put a smile on her face as she watches the love of her life not have any idea who she is. Those two things are very much linked, for obvious reasons.

"And then there are the massive stakes of the experiment itself: If it works, they save humanity, and if it doesn’t work, then maybe all of humanity is doomed. A lot of Season 3 was about personal dynamics. It was about Tahani and her sister, and about Jason and his dad and his best friend, and about Eleanor and Chidi."

He continued: "So we are now, in the final season, telling a lot of the ends of those stories, in addition to the end of the much larger plot story about the universe and how it judges people, and what it means to be a good or bad person. So everything is sort of dovetailing in the final season."
