Thomson Reuters Announces 2014 Extel Survey Results (original) (raw)
LONDON – Thomson Reuters, the world’s leading source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals, today announced the results of the 41st annual Thomson Reuters Extel Survey at a lunchtime ceremony in London's Guildhall. Considered the leading benchmark for excellence in investment banking and asset management, the pan-European survey highlights achievement across the buy-side, sell-side and corporate communities.
The 2014 Thomson Reuters Extel Survey continues to capture deeper, more analytical data from all the key market practitioners than ever before. Voting was conducted primarily online and ran from 25 March to 7 May 2014. It reflects the contribution of over 2,600 buy-side firms, 2,500 analysts from 280 brokerage firms/research houses and nearly 1,000 of Europe’s largest quoted companies worldwide – over 16,000 individual voters in total, casting over 700,000 votes. All data, votes received and methodology applied were independently checked and verified by Deloitte.
Highlights of the key winners from the 2014 Survey are:
- Leading Pan-European Brokerage Firm for Equity and Equity-Linked Research: Bank of America Merrill Lynch
- Leading Pan-European Fund Management Firm: JP Morgan AM
- Leading Pan-European Individual Equity Analyst: Andrew Wood, Sanford C. Bernstein
- Leading Pan-European Sector Team HSBC, Telecommunications Services
- Leading Pan-European Hedge Fund: GLG Partners
- Leading Pan-European Quoted Company for IR: Deutsche Telekom AG
The 2014 Thomson Reuters Extel Survey identified a number of industry trends, which include:
- Asset managers continue to see meetings with companies as an important part of the investment decision process, despite regulatory change to how they pay for access services
- Corporates are placing higher regard on buyside firms who engage with them, and practice long term stewardship with the companies they invest in
- Nearly 30% of sellside analysts believe they are penalized for negative reports or recommendations on companies they cover
“The appeal and power of Extel is evident, as yet again new record levels of voting were seen. Real thanks go to everyone who took part. With a more positive environment for equities, identifying excellence – in ideas, service and insights – for all three sides of the community, has never been at a greater premium.” commented Steve Kelly, managing director of Extel at Thomson Reuters.
