SPORTS SHORTS: Wolverines overtake Montezuma in four sets (original) (raw)
MONTEZUMA — The GMG volleyball team overcame an upstart Montezuma squad to defeat the Bravettes in four sets here Tuesday, winning 25-27, 25-20, 27-25, 25-21.
The Wolverines (11-3) were led on the night by Olivia Maddux, who racked up a whopping 22 kills in the four-set showdown. Landry August contributed 11 kills to the win, and Arianna Pierce pitched in five kills. GMG setter Hadlee Hempy finished with 36 assists.
Defensively, the Wolverines were led by August with 20 digs, while Ava Maddux added 16 digs. Rhianna Murty made five blocks at the net, while Pierce posted four blocks and Skyler Murty had three more.
GMG recorded six service aces in the match, led by Ava Maddux going 22-for-24 with two aces. Olivia Maddux served 13-for-13 with two aces, Hempy was 18-for-19 with one ace, and August was 16-for-17.
Sydnee Burgess and Kylee Larmore had 15 kills apiece to lead Montezuma (8-9).
Mustangs fall to AGWSR in straight sets
LE GRAND — The East Marshall volleyball team suffered straight-set defeat at the hands of AGWSR on Tuesday night in NICL West Division action.
The host Mustangs (4-14, 0-2) fell to the Cougars by scores of 25-18, 25-19, 25-11.
Cora Talbert led East Marshall’s attack with seven kills on the night, and setter Mya Gould totaled 13 assists. Bailey Grant paced the defense with 14 digs.
Mylie Rasmusson was 8-for-10 with two aces and Gould went 8-for-8 with an ace to lead the Mustangs at the service line. Talbert and Grant both served 7-for-7.
