Overview
As a focus on Historically Black Communicty Colleges (HBCCs) and evolving trends within industry and the workforce, the National Talent Bank (NTB) of Thurgood Marshall College Fund (TMCF) recognizes the opportunity to drive economic mobility through alternative educational and career pathways positioned to dismantle barriers to employment.
The inaugural Workforce Development Summit is designed to serve as a forum to bring together workforce talent from our HBCCs and community participants to deepen partnerships with various companies looking for work-ready talent.
The three-day Workforce Summit experience aims to introduce students to a variety of industry partners and showcase the evolution of the “world of work” and the skills needed to thrive, grow, and lead.
Dates: Late January (Exact Dates TBD)
Location: Birmingham, AL
Responsibilities
Benefits:
- Equip participants with professional competencies including interview training, preparation, and enhancement
- Resume workshops
- Networking opportunities with industry partners
- Insights from industry leaders
- Prepare students for life after education
- Provide financial and career planning
- Create networking opportunities
- Provide apprenticeships, co-ops, and/or full-time jobs at the Workforce Summit Career Exploration Fair.
As a result of the Summit, participants will have the necessary preparation to enter the workforce, lead and thrive.
Qualifications
Experience:
High school graduation years between 2014 – 2024
All Candidate Requirements:
- Resume: Show active work experience and skills
Interests in Trades, health sciences, career and technical jobs
Secondary Information (if needed): Transcript showing 2.0 GPA or higher - Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident Alien
Student Requirements: Students must be a high school graduate (see post-graduation time range above) currently attending one of our member HBCCs and meet one of the criteria below:
- Enrolled in a part-time, full-time program, or certificate program
- Enlisted in US military and enrolled part-time/full-time
- Interest in trades, health sciences, and career and technical jobs
Non-Student Requirements: Non-Student applicants must be a high school graduate (see post-graduation time range above) or GED holder and meet one of the criteria below:
- Currently employed part-time or full-time
- Open to participating in an apprenticeship or co-op program
- Interest in trades, health sciences, and career and technical jobs.
