We're excited to inform you about the recent passing of the amendments to the Town’s Environmentally Acceptable Packaging Ordinance. This initiative, effective 120 days after its approval date on April 16, 2024, marks a significant step towards a greener, more sustainable future for our community.

What Does the Ordinance Entail?
The ordinance mandates the use of environmentally acceptable packaging for all products distributed within Mount Pleasant. Acceptable carryout bags are specifically designed and manufactured for multiple reuse, and meet the following criteria:
- Must have a visible label saying it's reusable;
- Must have a stitched handle and not heat-fused;
- Must be made of any of the following materials:
- Cloth, other machine-washable fabric, or other durable materials, whether woven or non-woven; or
- Recyclable plastic, with a minimum thickness of 4 mils; and
- Has a minimum lifetime of 125 uses, which for purposes of this section means the capability of carrying a minimum of 22 pounds 125 times over a distance of at least 175 feet.
When Does It Take Effect?
The ordinance becomes fully effective on August 14, 2024, 120 days after its approval date.
