HAMILTON — The sixth-seeded Steinert High varsity baseball team scored runs in the bottom of the seventh and eighth innings to rally past 11th-seeded Ewing Friday at Rich Giallella Field for a 5-4 win in Colonial Valley Conference Tournament first-round play.
The victory sends head coach Brian Giallella’s team on to play at second-seeded Robbinsville in Tuesday’s quarterfinal round.
Matt Morris doubled and drove in two runs for the Spartans. Ryan Greig knocked in a pair for the Blue Devils.

HIGHTSTOWN — A run in the bottom of the eighth got the fifth-seeded Rams past the 12th-seeded Tigers in the CVC Tournament.
Brian Drews knocked in both of the runs for Hightstown, which will next play at Hopewell Valley at 4 p.m. Tuesday in the quarterfinal round.
Chase Hamerschlag struck out 11 in 6⅓ innings for Princeton.
Anthony Benitez struck out nine in 7⅔ innings before Manny Gonzalez came on in relief to get the win.

Janniel Hernandez had four runs batted in to help Trenton make a game of it despite trailing, 8-0, after five innings.
