Drove Route 138 from Trois Rivières to Montmorency Falls in Quebec City. It was a lovely drive down a secondary road. It runs along the St Lawrence River through small towns and agricultural land. It is a relaxing drive, so much nicer than the busy highway.

A very pretty way to see the countryside between the two big cities, but not a good idea if you are in a hurry. A sightseeing drive.

The King’s Path in English, it was the first roadway between Quebec City to Montreal that could accommodate wheeled vehicles for its entire length. A plaque outside the Porte Saint-Jean states on Aug 5, 1734 the Chief Roadmaster for New France headed to Montreal by coach to inaugurate the route. Today the drive along the North Shore on Highway 40 is slower than the South Shore with the Trans-Canada Highway but more scenic.

Like most people said, the part from Trois-Rivieres to Quebec City is the better part of the drive, but keep in mind most of the drive you are seeing homes, not river. But it is still very pretty if you have the time. Also, not many places to pull over and see the view.

We did half of this route from Trois Rivieres to Quebec. If you are not in a hurry this road is much better than the highway. It would have taken us 90 min on Rt 40 but this took about 2h 15m with only two photo stops. For the most part it goes along the river but much of it is in that you can't see the river. You go through some quaint picturesques villiages...emphasis on little, and there are several snack shacks along the way. I'm definitely glad I did it but once was enough.

After reading the reviews, we decided to detour off the highway on our way from Quebec to Montreal. Definitely not worth it, I would stay on the highway! Not a scenic drive in my opinion. (not in April anyway). Maybe in the summer it would be better, but then you would be sitting in traffic. If you have lots of time on your hands, go for it, but if you have better things to do with your time, don't bother.

We visited friends in the Trois-Rivieres area - it is so beautiful! Great scenery, small towns, friendly people - what else could you want!? We foolishly went through Montreal (from NY) to get to this place, but taking 132 to the tunnel to 40 would be the best route for next rrip! .

A great road to have a leisurely drive along between Montreal and Quebec City. Has a lot of quaint villages and towns along the route.

Expected beautiful villages and cool shops and restaurants. It was somewhat quaint but bit much stopping for shopping or food.
