TRATTORIA TERRA MADRE, Alberobello - Menu, Prices & Restaurant Reviews - Tripadvisor (original) (raw)

There was once a dream, and in this dream man and the earth regain their old friendship. An idea that Charming Tours caressed for years and now is declined in all possible aspects, the insignia of the proverbial hospitality of Puglia. The concept is very simple: to cultivate the land instead of cement; sowing, planting, harvest and serve excellence, foods with which we grew up, which belong to our tradition, lost flavors that our organic garden and nature makes us rediscover each day, with the invaluable help of the sun and dell ' water and compost, through which it returns to the land in the most natural way to where it needs to renew itself. Our guests, our friends can enjoy our garden and watch the comings and goings of our staff that collects and brings in the kitchen vegetables, spices, flavorings our cook Nicoletta transformed into delicious dishes, with skilled hands and stronger secrets of traditional homemade Alberobello, as they taught her grandmother and her mother. Terra Madre, a combination that embodies the core of life, well-being, the unique taste to taste genuine food, the wonderful feeling of eating what you eat at home, with the understanding that the distance traveled by the food to arrive in the kitchen is entirely covered by the look ecstatic of our guests, no preservation process, no fridge to alter the flavors. Only seasonal products, in respect of alternating between summer and winter, between hot and cold, high-quality and familiar, beginning exclusive guests of Charming Trulli, now treat for all those who want to get closer to the unique experience of eating in a real organic garden.

After 7 days of travelling from Rome to Puglia and tasting lots of different rich foods I was desperate for some vegetables. As a vegetarian I sometimes struggle with options whilst holidaying in Italy but not here! My Husband and I had the vegetable tasting plates (approximately 10 small dishes) followed by the wholewheat pasta and it was all so beautiful and fresh! The staff were very attentive and passionate about the food they serve. We sat in the garden next to the vegetable patch which was a lovely addition to the dining experience, knowing exactly where your food is coming from. We washed it all down with a local Primitivo from Alberobello and it was delicious! This is our second visit to Trattoria Terra Madre after stumbling across this little gem on our last visit in 2019. We can't wait to return ❤

The food at this restaurant was a joy to eat. Fresh vegetables sourced locally- from the restaurant garden in some cases. Lovely to be able to taste the vegetables without them being smoothered in spices. The presentation was excellent and the ambiance intimate and modern. Our pasta dishes were of a good portion size, tasty with just that bit of originality. The local wine recomended was supurb and very resonably priced. The staff were friendly and attentive explaining each dish and its provenance. One waiter even made a phone call to sort out a problem with our accomodation nearby. Everything you would want from a modern restaurant.

When I called to make a reservation here, the guy on the phone ended the call by saying "It will be excellent!" He was so right. The food at Trattoria Terra Madre couldn't be fresher or tastier. Everything was delicious and unique, so simple yet so so tasty. The service was great and the atmosphere was perfect. The portions were also just right - a blessing compared to some of the other places we ate where we were given way too much food. We'd definitely come back here if travels bring us to Puglia again.

Upon entrance to the place there is vibe of entering to an authentic place with a nice garden growing the whole vegetables. We were seated next to the garden. We ordered vegetable experience for 1, and 2 main dishes - one was the ravioli with rabbit and second was the meat rolls. Well, this vegetable experience is nothing about experience. It is just vegetables that are cut and served, nothing special, no creativity and they were tasteless. I would expect from such a place to blast me with vegetable taste and flavors. Main dishes were average. We had to pay service 3 euros per person including a 2 year old child. Bill was 68 euro, I gave a 100 euro bill and the rude waiter decided to give me back 30 euros and keeping 2 euros for himself. Yes. Just like that. Without asking. I did not ask for the money back, but I certainly wanted to bring it up here.

We arrived for our 8pm booking, and were seated at 8.01. By 8.03 the waiter was asking what we wanted to order. We ordered the vegetable degustation for two, with one having a main (rabbit). A total of 60 Euro. Ordered the wine. Close to the cheapest was 32 Euro, but as it turned out, the best part of the meal by far. By 8.05, 5 (FIVE!) cold dishes arrived, all at once, stacked two high on the table. This included, as an example, sliced raw capsicum drizzled in olive oil, with no seasoning of any sort. No pride, no care, no love for the obviously fresh ingredients. All other dishes were similarly underwhelming and unseasoned. We had finished 3 of these cold dishes, when the next 4 (FOUR!!!) warm (not hot) entrees arrived, and were similarly stacked on the table. It was now 8.15. The warm entrees included, as an example, poblano peppers which had been sweated (not blistered), and were again totally unseasoned. The contrast between this and a Spanish tapa could not have been more stark. By 8.30, they had cleared these "entrees", which was apparently the end of my wife's 25 Euro "degustation", and served the rabbit. This was advertised as "baked", with chicory and capocollo farci and a salad of spinach and apple. What arrived was a cold roulade, obviously cooked hours before, with no chicory anywhere to be seen, and no apple (raw zucchini had been drafted in without mention). By 9pm, we were out the door, 101 Euro the poorer for our experience, after trying to explain our disappointment to the wait staff (who argued the toss at every turn, claiming that the fact it was organic trumped every concern we may have had that the kitchen showed no skill or love), and then the denouement: An Insight Tours rep, standing in the lobby, tried to shove me out the door, saying that I had had my say so "p off". Nice. Be sure NOT to ever take an Insight Tour, be sure NOT to dine at Terra Madre, and be sure TO dine at La Cantina in Alberobello for an experience that really will make your heart sing.

The original concept was vegetarian, but interestingly there was only fava beans with radiccio as truly vegetarian main course. The vegetarian platter was OK, but some elements lacked seasoning and flavour. If the 8 items, 2 were very good. The wines we had were excellent. Our main concern cane with our mains which were horrendously salty. I managed 1/3 of mine, and my partner managed ravioli but had to scape the salty sauce off... it is evident the chef had not tasted this food. We complained. The manager/owner told the waiter to bring us a dessert to share (woukd have been nice to be offered a choice) , but as it happened it was excellent. He then offered us digestives (one was incorrectly served) I can see the owner was trying to make things right but somehow didn't quite succeed (mainly as our taste buds were affected by the salt). It was really the way the complaint was handled that upset us, as prior to this the service had been good.

Recommended for lunch by our private driver who is from alberobello. You enter from the street and their is a large garden for which ALL vegetable and spices are grown. We were recommended the Vegetable experience which includes 7-8 uniquely prepared small salads and small samples of prepared vegetables . We enjoyed the veal balls with a potato ball and eggplant Parmesan (NOT your typical USA version). Incredibly fresh and delicious. We enjoyed the recommended Bianco and rose by the glass (all Apulian).

Very nice restaurant with home grown produce as the star dishes. For a full meal they only run degustation style eating but they are varied and you get to chose one of a number of mains. The 8 plates of vegetable starters were fantastic and had some real skills involved in the flavours. We had 2 mains both of Veal in two different ways and both were excellent. Our only negative and its very small but we felt the food was served up very quick and we like to take our time but that really didn’t subtract from our time there. Great place and Bravo to the wait staff, their English was all fantastic which made it easier for us.

Absolutely lovely spot with the freshest vegetables you’ll ever have. The 3 course vegetable starter is amazing with cucumber salad, green beans and eggplant for first 3 dishes. The next 6 dishes were all fabulous with barley/veggies, rocket salad, eggplant pie with cheese to name some yummy-ness. The entrees orciette with zucchini and mint was perfect. The hubs ate rolled veal with divine tomato sauce. This is a true farm to table experience with the garden visible from the open air dining area.

Excellent experience. We ate there for the third time (twice in September 2020). Not disappointed. Essentially a table d’ hote menu, to which can be added extra courses. The service was friendly and the cooking excellent. We had ten dishes of variously cooked home grown organic vegetables. Skillfully done. Enjoyable and we look forward to dining here again.

We wanted a change from the typical menu offerings and discovered this place away from the main piazza. The veggie experience was really enjoyable . We had about eight tapas sized dishes which the two of us shared. We then follwowed by one main pasta dish to share which was adequate for us as we are not big quantity eaters. All the dishes were varied and tasted great. The staff were very friendly. I would recommend booking as many were being turned away .

I was honestly disappointed: everyone speaks highly of it but... The tasting includes various courses of vegetables which however are mostly raw and unseasoned. Personally I love peppers (even raw) but the ones served, although very fragrant, had the same flavor as a potato. I was hoping for the first courses but, alas, here too a big disappointment: raw vegetables and watery dishes. And on the prices, I draw a veil of compassion: in my modest opinion they are absolutely not worth what we ate. I do not understand…

Simply outstanding. Wonderful, fresh vegetables followed by array of pastas, cooked by a young crew who totally know what they’re doing. Been it Italy for a month and put this experience right at the top. Bravo.

Quaint and lovely. Enter the establishment and find the overhead grapevine arbor and the tables and chairs surrounding the vegetable garden. The specialty dinner for 2-‘vegetable experience’ with 2 additional entrees was so fresh and delicious. We were very pleased with the quality, service and cost. Highly recommend the 7 minute walk out of the main tourist area to this enchanting establishment.

Let's say straight away that the waiters are uniquely kind and the dinner in the garden is certainly beautiful but the quality/price ratio does not exist! €270 for 4 with mixed vegetable appetizers, cold cuts and cheese platter, first course and a bottle of wine. No second course, no dessert. Too expensive compared to the real costs of Puglia
