With pink (yes, pink) sands and turquoise waters, Elafonissi Beach is just one of those places you have to see to believe. The shallow lagoons are perfect for curious children, while the deeper waters invite all sorts of adventure for adults: swimming, snorkelling, you name it. Just make sure to stick around until sunset—you won't regret it.
- I gave this 5/5 purely for the beach and our experience, there were downsides but this grading is for the beach, the view and the gorgeous water. The beach is beyond stunning with the most lovely warm aqua water, and a beautiful back drop. When we were there we didn’t see any boats arrive to spoil the water or view. The downside is the parking as people have mentioned in previous reviews as you are forced to park at the car park furthest away, only to find as you walk down there are closer ones. If going here and you have infirm or lots of really young children, ignore those in the road guiding you to the first car park and drive on (you can always come back if full) There is a bit of a walk, downhill, but the view and beach are worth it. We went in August and the beaches were very very busy. We went to the far side and enjoyed silence and beautiful water all day. I am glad we went as Elefonisi along with Balos was part of the reason we chose this part of Crete. If we were to go again, and we would go again, we would arrive earlier, aim for a closer car park and go to the far side again. I think it’s a must see if you are this side of the island :-)
@Flyer02999596830 - Great beach, just don't park in the first parking. They will tell you the others are full but it's just a scam to charge you more and trick you
@Sightsee47678006601 - It's one of those places you don't think exists. Magical landscape, crystal clear waters, incredible experience that is worth all to experience. The only thing I didn't like was the behavior of people in the parking lot. You're incredibly rude and act like crazy for the money. I also came across a scene where a stranger was almost beaten up. A little embarrassing...
@_B1369ST - This beach is amazing & we ended up going 2x in our 10 day holiday. We hired a car there as it was only 1hr away from our hotel. As you arrive to the beach there are scammers that stand in the road saying that the main car park is closed when it’s not just drive round them or say your going to the shop down the road & you can get through so you can park closer to the beach (€5) for the whole day cash or card. There are 2 shops & a cafe before you start the walk down to the beach which takes about 15 mins. There are also 2 beach bars offering hot snacks, drinks etc on the beach. The first part of the beach is really really busy but if you cross the water & carry on walking it’s really quiet & your almost on your own also the snorkling is absolutely amazing in this area. As for the pink sand… you can definitely see it’s pink in the main area but there isn’t as much of it as you see in the pics on Google but again once you walk further it does get a bit pinker. Would definitely recommend a trip here as it’s absolutely beautiful but go early to beat the rush. We got there for 9.30am the second time we went & it was already starting to get a bit busy but as I said is you walk an extra 15 mins there are hardly any people.
@S7531UOabigails - Well worth the two hour drive through the mountains (which is an event on its own!) A stunningly beautiful place, take time to wade over the lagoon and explore the left hand side of the peninsula and it's pink sandy and rocky areas. It's so lovely here 😎
