Bernie Birman
“Bernie Birman reflects on a ziplock bag of his pain medication,” Kiki wrote. “He is recuperating from a bite wound that became infected. His roommate Fanny Farmer is the culprit who bit him. Can’t we all live in peace? For now, the two cats are living in separated quarters in the same house.” (Update: Bernie is all cured now, Kiki tells us.)

Kevin and Savannah.
“This is my cat, Kevin, he’s about 8 years old and I got him as a kitten when he was rescued from a barn along with his sister,” Savannah writes. “He and his sister were meant to be fosters, but the day my mom brought Kevin home she was quite worried he was too scared so she brought him to me. He curled up in my lap and slept for four hours! This meant we just had to keep them, the common foster fail. To this day, we are nearly inseparable. A fun fact about us is that I have been able to take both my high school and college graduation photos with him!”

Molly Guthrey spotted a tiny friend on her porch over the weekend. The frog jumped into a planter of geraniums when she tried to say hello, but her son managed to take this photo before our shy pal disappeared into the foliage.

Butterfree is waiting for a home.
“This is Butterfree, a 9-month-old torbie who has never met a feather toy she couldn’t take down,” Rachel writes. “She equally loves waking up and looking out to say hi to her deer friends in her yard and a comfy snooze. She finds her 15-year-old foster brothers boring and would love a young friend to play with. She is available for adoption at Twin Cities Pet Rescue at twincitiespetrescue.org/adoptable-animals.”

Zoey, Buttons and Zeb.
“I’m sure a few in St Paul will remember these guys (all deceased now) who hosted when we’d open our studio for the St Paul Art Crawl and our many walks around town,” Laura writes. “Zoey, the Havanese, was a rescue from a puppy mill, Buttons, the cat, was a rescue from the neighbor’s wood pile in Colorado, and Zeb was found roaming the streets of Colorado Springs. Zoey was the sweetest girl, Buttons thought he was a dog (we thought he was a girl when we got him) and Zeb was a rotten little guy when we found him, but turned into the toast of the town with his cummerbund for his loss of control and his stroller for getting around when he could not do the walks he used to do. He still loved to smell the roses and wanted to go into every door in downtown. We never knew what kind of dog he was but, after a haircut, one bar patron asked if he was a Dingo and with full fur, one guy stumbled out of Alary’s and yelled, ‘%^&*, a raccoon!’ We miss them all very much. We have two other rescues now that have been featured in Daily Doggo.”

Happy Birthday, Bert!
“I’d like to submit the following doggo, Bert, for consideration this May 10 (thereabouts),” writes Rachel of Afton. “Bert is the beloved ‘son’ of Jean and Scott Cottington of Mendota Heights and is celebrating his Sweet Sixteen! This is Bert celebrating his quinceañero last year. He was feted by many friends and admirers. Thank you!!”

Sophie

Her Majesty Czarina Milashka, or Mila for short.
“It’s been said that cats don’t have owners; they have servants,” says Brad of Roseville, who describes himself as Minister to Her Majesty Czarina Milashka. “Mila may not have coined this expression, but she is most certainly an adherent to the philosophy. Her reign began when she adopted us in 2018. This photo is from when we realized that (in cat years) she was entitled to a Silver Jubilee.”
Tuesday, May 5

Winnie and Cooper.
“Love your pet photos!” Mary writes. “Meet Winnie and Cooper. Cooper is the smaller dog with tan face markings. They are my niece’s fur family members. Cooper is a new addition, a rescue, who Lesley says gets along well with Winnie except for getting annoyed with her little brother occasionally.”

Cookie's special food.
“This is Cookie, ” Jerry writes. “The vet says she has a little extra weight, she calls it ‘winter weight.’ I know better. Luckily, Cookie can’t read.”
