Sept. 20 (UPI) -- A Virginia man made a stop to buy an energy drink and ended up winning a $1 million prize from a scratch-off lottery ticket.

Roanoke resident Nicholas Foxx told Virginia Lottery officials he was visiting family in Altavista when he decided to stop at the A1 Mini Mart on Main Street to buy an energy drink.

Foxx ended up buying some scratch-off lottery tickets and one of the games, 20X the Money, turned out to be a $1 million top prize winner.

"I thought I was reading it wrong," Foxx recalled. "You don't know anyone who's hit the lottery for that amount of money!"

Foxx decided to accept his prize as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $625,000 before taxes.

He did not reveal whether he has any plans for his winnings.
