About

Born Abel Tesfaye, The Weeknd is a singer, songwriter and record producer. He began making music in 2009, releasing his work anonymously on YouTube before founding his own label, XO, two years later.

Throughout his career, the Canadian has won three Grammy Awards, 19 Billboard Music Awards, 15 Juno Awards, six American Music Awards and two MTV Video Music Awards. In 2016, he was nominated for an Academy Award in the Best Original Song category for “Earned It,” which was featured in Fifty Shades of Grey.

The “Blinding Lights” artist has released five studio albums: Kiss Land (2013), Beauty Behind the Madness (2015), Starboy (2016), After Hours (2020) and Dawn FM (2022). He also re-released his debut mixtape, House of Balloons, in 2021 after headlining the Super Bowl LV halftime show.

His Emmy-nominated performance at the football game came shortly after he slammed the Grammys for snubbing After Hours, which fans widely viewed as one of the top albums of the year. In January 2021, The Weeknd stated that his previous Grammy trophies felt meaningless and vowed to no longer submit his work for awards consideration.

In 2015, the Uncut Gems actor began dating Bella Hadid. The duo made their red carpet debut at the Grammys the following year before calling it quits in November 2016. The “Starboy” performer briefly moved on with Selena Gomez and reunited with Hadid in May 2018. One year later, the pair split again.

The Weeknd was linked to Angelina Jolie in mid-2021 after they were spotted together on several dinner dates and at a concert. While neither addressed their rumored relationship, fans believed he referred to Jolie on a handful of Dawn FM songs, including “Here We Go… Again” and “I Heard You’re Married.”
