Will you accept this onesie? Season 22 Bachelor Arie Luyendyk Jr. and fiancée Lauren Burnham are pregnant with their first child, the couple reveal exclusively to Us Weekly in this week’s issue, on stands now. “I kind of had a feeling that I might be pregnant. So my friend insisted on bringing a pregnancy test […]

“I think, to be honest, in the beginning we were both hoping that we were having a girl,” Burnham, 27, told Us in an interview on Friday, January 5. The couple, who fell in love on The Bachelor and got engaged in March 2018, exclusively announced their pregnancy with Us in November, but not until Burnham took six (!) pregnancy tests. Then, the pair initially thought they were having a son.

“We actually did the early gender test online, so we took our test at 10 weeks,” Burnham said. “We got the results back from that, and it was that we were having a boy.” Afterward, the doctor encouraged her to do an ultrasound at 15 weeks. They taped a gender reveal special for The Bachelor … and then found out they were actually having a girl.

LOL

While Luyendyk, Jr., 37, was “in shock,” Burnham “was cracking up the whole time.”

“I was very quiet. The ultrasound tech says, ‘Well. I'm about 98 percent.’ So I still wasn't convinced after the first time we saw it,” the former race car driver said. “We went back to the doctor, went back a few other times and just went back for our anatomy scan. It’s definitely a girl!”

They then had to call The Bachelor team about what they had shot. “The phone call back to the producers was hilarious because they're like, ‘Arie, you're always making things difficult!’ We all had a big laugh about it,” he added.

What's Wrong With Being Confident?

The duo, who are getting married in Hawaii on January 12, also had already picked out a name for their son, which they’re keeping to themselves in case they have a boy down the road — understandably so. Ultimately, Burnham admitted that she’s actually more confident having a daughter first.

“I was really nervous to be a boy mom because I just don't know that I can relate as well, being a woman relating to a little boy,” she shared. “I have a little brother, and he's so sweet and I love him to death, but sometimes I don't really understand why he acts that way he does. I'm feeling a lot more confident in being able to be a girl mom first!”

No Dating!

Luyendyk Jr. is “very excited” he’s having a daughter. “I won’t have to worry about putting that little boy into a race car anytime soon,” he said. However, he will have to worry about dating eventually – but that’s a long way away. “She’s not leaving the house until she’s 30,” he joked.
