An ongoing focus on healthy buildings

Healthy buildings that are good for people and the world in which we live can be achieved by focusing more on comfort, energy and environment parameters. We started our journey with sustainable living in buildings in 1999 and since then have founded a global alliance, partnered in demonstration projects around the world and driven research that puts the spotlight on the need for building renovation solutions to address societal and environmental issues.

Living Places

As a pioneer target in the VELUX sustainability strategy 2030, the Living Places concept was ideated and developed by VELUX in partnership with EFFEKT and Artelia to rethink how we build today and challenge the building industry to create responsible and regenerative solutions that benefit both people and the planet.

Living Places Copenhagen is a partner project for the UIA World Congress of Architects in Copenhagen and consists of seven buildings – five open pavilions and two finished homes in full scale, showing our take on healthy and sustainable homes.

RenovActive

We believe that everyone deserves a healthy home that is also comfortable and energy efficient. That is why we developed RenovActive, a set of scalable design parameters that can optimise comfort, energy and indoor air quality in homes. The RenovActive concept is replicable and affordable for social housing and privately-owned homes.

Demonstration buildings

Since 2005, the VELUX Group has been involved in more than 30 full-scale demonstration building projects in 22 countries.

In all projects we emphasised that concerns for the environment must never precede concerns for the health and well-being of the users of buildings. Our approach is based on the Active House principles within comfort, energy and environment.

The Healthy Buildings Barometer is an annual research-based report that takes the pulse of Europe's building stock. Since 2015, the reports have highlighted the importance of improving buildings to address health and climate concerns across populations.

The barometers focus on the health of buildings' occupants and are based on data from accredited research partners.
