The Drake and Kendrick Lamar beef included many side characters, some of whom surprised the world by having such disdain for the Toronto superstar. Mustard, the producer for the smash hit diss song “Not Like Us,” recently explained how Drizzy can bounce back from losing the beef and watching the Compton rapper’s victory lap during his Super Bowl LIX halftime show.

The 34-year-old producer joined Big Boy for an interview following the Super Bowl and was asked how the For All The Dogs artist can move forward. At first, he didn’t seem interested in offering any advice or even discussing him. “I don’t know, man,” he began. “I actually don’t think about what he could do. I just try to stay aligned with pure sh*t, just being pure and being on the right side of things — not doing no tactics and gimmicks.”

Eventually, he gave a simple answer that many people would likely agree with. “I’m not speaking at Drake or for him, but a lot of sh*t that’s going on — the tactics, the things that you do just to get attention. You don’t need to do that,” he stated. “Just make music, man. Make good music and you’ll be fine.”

Killer Mike had similar advice for Drake during an interview with GQ. “I mean, you do what Hip Hop has always done. You take your L’s like you take your W’s, you dust yourself off, you get back to making dope music. […] I’d just get back to satisfying whatever Drake fans are wanting,” he said before acknowledging other greats who have taken losses in rap beef.

“The best has taken some losses. Ice Cube handed my favorite group in the world [N.W.A] a loss, but that didn’t stop Eazy-E from discovering Bone Thugs-N-Harmony and making the biggest comeback ever. That didn’t stop Dr. Dre from making The Chronic, you know what I’m saying?” While the advice is sound, one would be hard-pressed to compare any of these losses to what the five-time Grammy winner has endured over the last year.

“Not Like Us” went No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and has been endlessly meme’d and quoted by various brands. Kendrick Lamar went on to perform the song six times at The Pop Out concert on Juneteenth 2024. He also won five Grammys for the track and unsurprisingly performed it during his Super Bowl LIX halftime show. Before delivering the full song, he teased it but claimed “they love to sue,” a reference to Drake’s defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group. Mustard joined Lamar on the Caesar’s Superdome field to close the performance with his record “TV Off” from the November 2024 album GNX, which also went No. 1.

Optically, Drake is the most fallible that he has ever been in his career. However, new music is on the way. This Friday (Feb. 14), he will join PARTYNEXTDOOR to soundtrack fans’ Valentine’s Day adventures with their collaborative album $ome exyexy exyongs 4 U.
